DAY 7 - TUESDAY 6th NOVEMBER 2012

Written by Tam

Participants: Tam, Kev, India and Georgia

A very gloomy start today, with rain and grey skies. We stay in watching the election unwind – I do some washing and we entertain ourselves until the rain stops and the sun comes out. As the forecast is not great and showers are forecast we make the best of the dry period and head to the beach. There are dolphins swimming in the distance – this sight never ceases to amaze me and make me smile – damn my jaw is aching again – dolphins should carry a health warning.
We go out in the sea with the boogie board and also have a go with the snorkels that I bought with us. As we are sitting on the beach we watch as a huge chunk of dark clouds start rolling in across the water – it is so obviously a huge band of rain on its way.

We pack up and go on the roof to watch the storm until the rain starts. There’s nothing for it but to head indoors and drink beer, eat snacks and play games.

As Kev is not a games lover we decide he should choose the game today and to my dismay he chooses Disney’s Scene It – the girls however are delighted. It is the DVD version and true to form Georgia wins – she is on a real roll this holiday. Kev rather begrudgingly agrees to a game of Rummikub and again Georgia is the victor.

The rain by now has cleared and the sun comes out so down to the beach for the last time before returning for a go in the hot tub. It is time for that miserable chore of packing before we prepare supper. Barbecue steak, homemade potato wedges and salad – again all very tasty.

Much talk then on what songs we could use on this year’s holiday video – a list of suggestions is drawn up and we then turn on the TV at 11pm to watch for updates on the election. All of a sudden it flashes up that Obama has been re-elected. It all seemed very early in the proceedings to know this bearing in mind the size of the U.S.A. and the fact that in England it can sometimes be the next day before a winner is announced. We would have raised a beer or two in his honour but having demolished 36 bottles of beer, 1 bottle of rum, 1 tequila and 5 bottles of wine we only have triple sec, agave syrup and grenadine left and somehow we just don’t fancy it.

Here's a little video of our time on North Captiva.
