Gulet
Cruise Sept 2026
Paxos
Participants: Kev & Tam
After breakfast on board we left Plataria (I forgot to mention that it's on the mainland) and sailed towards Paxos. We stopped for a swim and lunch on the way.

The food at lunchtime was consistantly good.
When we arrived in Gaios (the main town) the crew showed their true worth in manoveuring the boat into a spot that was barely wider than it was. We were due to have a night in Antipaxos and a night in Paxos, but due to the upcoming bad weather we were now spending 2 nights in Gaios. Tam and I really didn't mind as it's a lovely little place with many waterside bars and restaurants. Once we were moored up Tam, me and Caz went for a walk around.

After returning to the boat to shower we headed out for a drink in a couple of bars before eating at the Mediterraneo restaurant. The food here was lovely and it was really quiet. At one point a guy with a guitar pulled up a chair by the table of a couple just across from us and played the most wonderful couple of songs. I saw him later and had a quick chat. It turned out that he owns the restaurant and is a professional musician. It certainly showed and it added to an already excellent meal.

Fish again tonight and beautiful it was too.

This is typical of the bars along the waterfront just steps from the boats.

Back on board Tam and I spent another
mostly sleepless night as the engines were running all night and
the fume filled cabin was not a nice place to be. We tried
sleeping on deck and this was a little better, but still not
restful. The next morning we looked for somewhere to stay for our
second night in Gaios and found a little 2 bedroom apartment for
a reasonable price. Caz was suffering from the same issues as us
and so joined us in the apartment.
To be fair to Sail in Greece because we were spending a second
night in Gaios they organised a trip touring the island, so after
breakfast we boarded a bus. The first stop was a viewpoint and it
was drizzling fairly heavily, so the view was not quite as nice
as it could have been.

This shows how the town is primarily supported by the yachting community.

Our first stop was Lakka were Tam and I had a cup of coffee. As you can see the weather had definitely improved.

Next was Loggos, which we thought was a lovely little place.

Back on the boat we had lunch before Tam, me and Caz walked the 1/2 a mile or so to our apartment for the night.

It was immaculately clean, it almost seemed brand new. Oh the joy of air conditioning that didn't rattle and wheeze, a hot shower and a comfortable quiet bed.

This was the little road from our apartment into town.

On the way back to the boat we stopped in Plum for a cocktail. Two actually as they were that good. It was the Captain's Dinner tonight on board and that makes it sound a whole lot more swanky than it was. Still it was good fun with food being good again and Moussa supplying the music. He got many people dancing to his favourite Egyptian tunes before playing some more well known songs. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.

It rained a fair bit, but we all stayed
dry for the dinner. This wasn't quite the case later in the night
for those that stayed on board. This was the evening that many
had wet bedding and the sister ship next door was close to
flooding.
Tam, me and Caz wobbled back to our apartment around 11.30 pm for
the joy of sleeping a in a quiet, comfotable bed.
